1. Introduction

Famsies ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Famsies mobile application and website at famsies.com. We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and what rights you have regarding your data. If you have questions, contact us at privacy@famsies.com.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly: Account credentials (email address, password), profile information (your name, your children's names and ages), daily check-ins, mood data, and parenting reflections, journal entries and free-writing content, conversations with Sage our AI parenting coach, co-parent messages and shared notes, community posts in The Village.

Information collected automatically: Device type, operating system version, and app version, IP address and general location (country/region level only), app usage patterns and feature interactions, crash reports and performance data, purchase and subscription history.

Information from third parties: Authentication data from your Apple or Google account if used to sign in, subscription status from Apple App Store or Google Play, payment confirmation from RevenueCat (we never see your full payment details).

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to: create and manage your account, provide and personalize the Famsies experience, power Sage's AI responses using your parenting history and preferences, maintain Sage's 7-day rolling memory for continuity across sessions, enable co-parent features between linked accounts, process subscription payments, send transactional emails (account confirmation, waitlist updates, receipts), analyze usage patterns to improve the app, respond to support requests, and comply with legal obligations.

We do not use your personal data to generate public blog content. All Famsies blog posts are written using general parenting research and publicly available information only.

4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), we process your data under the following legal bases:

  • Contract performance — to provide the services you signed up for.
  • Legitimate interests — to improve our app and prevent fraud.
  • Consent — for optional features like marketing emails.
  • Legal obligation — to comply with applicable laws.

5. AI and Your Data

Sage is powered by Anthropic's Claude API. When you send a message to Sage, your message and relevant conversation history are transmitted to Anthropic's servers to generate a response. Anthropic processes this data subject to their own privacy policy at anthropic.com/privacy.

We maintain a rolling 7-day conversation summary to help Sage remember context about you and your family. Conversations older than 7 days are summarized and the originals are deleted. You can clear your Sage memory at any time from Settings.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We share data only with the following service providers, solely to operate Famsies:

  • Supabase (supabase.com) — database, authentication, and real-time infrastructure.
  • Anthropic (anthropic.com) — AI processing for Sage.
  • RevenueCat (revenuecat.com) — subscription management.
  • Brevo (brevo.com) — transactional email delivery.
  • Apple / Google — app distribution and payment processing.
  • Vercel (vercel.com) — website hosting.

We may also share data if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of Famsies, our users, or the public.

7. Co-Parent Data

Messages sent in the Co-parent Space are visible to both linked co-parents. When Sage is enabled in the Co-parent Space, Sage may read recent messages to provide contextual support. You can disable Sage's presence at any time using the toggle in the Co-parent screen. Co-parent links can be dissolved at any time from Settings, after which neither party can access the other's data.

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account remains active. Upon account deletion: your profile, children's data, check-ins, journal entries, and Sage conversations are permanently deleted within 30 days. Co-parent messages are deleted from both accounts. Anonymized, aggregated usage statistics may be retained indefinitely. We may retain certain data longer if required by law or to resolve disputes.

9. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Famsies is designed for parents and caregivers aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The children's names and ages you enter in the app are used solely to personalize Sage's guidance for you as a parent — this information is stored securely and never used for advertising or shared with third parties. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. Contact us at privacy@famsies.com if you believe this has occurred.

10. Your Privacy Rights

All users:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Opt out of non-essential communications

California residents (CCPA):

  • Know what personal information is collected and how it's used
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell your data)
  • Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

EEA/UK residents (GDPR):

  • Withdraw consent at any time
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
  • Request restriction of processing

11. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS) for all data
  • Encrypted storage via Supabase
  • Server-side API key management — no sensitive keys are ever exposed to the client
  • Row-level security policies on all database tables
  • Regular security reviews

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. International Data Transfers

Famsies is operated from the United States. If you access Famsies from outside the US, your data may be transferred to and processed in the US. By using Famsies, you consent to this transfer. Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers from the EEA.

13. Third-Party Links

Famsies may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties and encourage you to review their privacy policies.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of material changes by email or in-app notification at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of Famsies after changes constitute acceptance of the updated policy.
